WACHIOVIA BANK ROBBED BY AN INDIVUDAL ARMED WITH A HANDGUN

Charlotte, NC - The FBI Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force is seeking the public's assistance in identifying and locating the individual responsible for the recent robbery of the Wachovia Bank located at 801 Kenilworth Avenue, Charlotte, North Carolina (NC).

On September 18, 2007, at approximately 3:20 p.m., a lone male entered the bank and approached the bank counter. The suspect, who was armed with and displayed a revolver, demanded cash from the bank tellers. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, which the suspect placed in a dark plastic garbage bag that he apparently brought with him, the suspect fled the area, possibly on foot. There were no injuries as a result of the robbery.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 5'10" in height, medium build, and late 40s to early 50s in age. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing a black ball cap, a short-sleeved polo shirt that was greenish-brown in color, and blue-jean pants. The suspect also had a stocking mask pulled over his face.

Investigators from the FBI Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the robbery and are still investigating.

No images suitable for dissemination and identification of the suspect were obtained from the bank's surveillance system, so the FBI Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force is not releasing any images of today's suspect. Anyone with information regarding this case is requested to contact the FBI at (704) 377-9200.
