PRESS RELEASE

 September 13, 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

WACHOVIA BANK ROBBED BY AN ARMED BANDIT

Charlotte, NC - The FBI Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force is seeking the public's assistance in identifying the individual responsible for the recent armed robbery of the Wachovia Bank located at 4501 Park Road, Charlotte, North Carolina (NC).

On September 13, 2007, at approximately 12:45 p.m., the suspect entered the bank and paused briefly in the vestibule of the bank while putting a stocking over his head. The suspect thereafter approached one of the teller windows and demanded cash from two bank tellers. The suspect was given an undisclosed amount of money, which included a dye back. The money and the dye pack were placed in a plastic bag, and the suspect fled the bank on foot in the direction of Abbey Place.

Shortly thereafter the dye pack exploded, and the suspect was observed throwing the smoking plastic bag in to the back of a pick-up truck, which the suspect entered and drove away. There were no injuries as a result of the robbery.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 6 feet in height, thin to medium build, and 30s in age. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing a polo shirt with blue and white stripes, blue-jean long pants, a white ball cap that had a dark-colored brim, and a latex glove on his left hand.

The getaway vehicle was described as being a white pick-up truck that contained a translucent water/liquid tank in the bed of the trunk just behind the truck's rear window. However, the tank did not take up the entire bed of the truck.

Given the activation of the dye pack, the suspect, his clothing, the bank robbery loot, and/or the getaway vehicle may be covered in a red dye.

Investigators from the FBI Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the robbery and are still investigating. At this point in time, there is no information to indicate that this bank robbery is connected with the bank robbery of the BB&T located at 200 South College Street, Charlotte, NC, that occurred earlier today. However, both investigations are still ongoing.

The FBI Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force is releasing the attached images from the bank's surveillance system to help further identify the suspect. Anyone with information regarding this case is requested to contact the FBI at (704) 377-9200.
