FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Charlotte, NC – The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual who is responsible for the recent robbery of the First Charter Bank located at 4735 Highway 49 South , Harrisburg, North Carolina (NC). On August 22, 2007, at approximately 10:49 a.m., a lone male entered the bank and presented a bank robbery demand note to one of the bank tellers. The demand note indicated that that the suspect was armed; however, no weapon was observed or displayed during the course of the robbery. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect fled the area. Subsequent investigation by the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force determined that the suspect who robbed the First Charter Bank is believed to be the same individual who robbed the Wachovia Bank located at 1500 Westinghouse Boulevard, Charlotte, NC, on August 20, 2007. In fact, investigation has determined that during today’s robbery, the suspect was apparently wearing the same items of clothing that were worn during the August 20, 2007, robbery. The suspect in today’s robbery and the earlier robbery is described as a black male, approximately 5’11 in height, weighing about 200 pounds, and 25 – 30 years of age. At the time of the robberies, the suspect was wearing a black t-shirt, dark pants, and a black cap with white stripes and the letters “NC” embroidered into the front of the hat. Investigators from the FBI Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force and the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office responded to today’s robbery and are still investigating. The FBI Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force anticipates releasing bank surveillance images of the suspect in today’s robbery as soon as the images are available.
