Charlotte, NC --- Today at approximately 9:30 am, a lone black male armed with a drawn handgun entered the Wachovia Bank located at 4501 Park Road South, Charlotte, North Carolina, and ordered the bank employees and customers to lie on the floor. The suspect then proceeded to take cash from the teller drawers. After taking the cash, the suspect fled the bank in a white, 4-door Honda Civic, which turned onto Park Road. The suspect is believed to have triggered an anti-theft device which may have covered himself and the stolen money with a red dye.
The suspect was dressed in dark clothing consisting of long pants and a long white t-shirt worn underneath a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt. The suspect's face was covered with a red bandana.
Investigators from the FBI's Safe Street Task Force and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the robbery and are still investigating. The FBI's Safe Streets Task Force is comprised of agents, officers, and detectives form the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, the North Carolina Probation and Parole, and other law enforcement agencies.
The FBI's Safe Street Task Force investigators are releasing the still images below from the bank surveillance system to help further identify the suspect. Anyone with information regarding the robbery or the suspect is requested to contact the FBI at 704-377-9200.
