WOMAN ARRESTED FOR FLEEING WITH CHILDREN

Charlotte, NC –  Kevin B. Kendrick, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in North Carolina here, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol announces the arrest of JOYCE LINDA MURRAY STEYNE in Lillington.

STEYNE, 45, is charged with removal of minor children from North Carolina in violation of a custody order and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

On December 17, 1999, STEYNE and her older brother STEPHEN KIRK MURRAY, picked up STEYNE’s three minor children in Ahoskie for a scheduled visitation.  Two of the minors were not returned as scheduled and one minor was abandoned at a hotel in Roanoke Rapids.  Numerous leads were initiated by FBI Charlotte as a result of multiple suspected sightings from early 2000 to the present.  On February 2, 2006, a traffic stop was initiated by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in Lillington.  The deputy became suspicious and further investigated to fully identify STEYNE.  The two minors were in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop and appeared to be in good physical condition.  The father is now reunited with the two minors.

STEYNE is in custody and being held at the Harnett County jail.

The FBI, along with other state and local law enforcement agencies, continue to search for STEPHEN KIRK MURRAY and ask that anyone with further information to please contact the FBI or local law enforcement.

The FBI is still investigating this matter.
