RALEIGH – The North Carolina Bankers Association will hold a Robbery/Identity Theft press conference on Wednesday, December 6, at 10 a.m. at the Association’s headquarters at 3601 Haworth Drive in Raleigh. It will be conducted on the front lawn or inside in the event of inclement weather.

NCBA Security Committee Chairman Larry Barbour, President and CEO of North State Bank, Raleigh, will preside and introduce the featured speakers, Attorney General Roy Cooper and FBI Special Agent in Charge for North Carolina Nathan (Nate) Gray.

Cooper will address identity theft issues and how consumers can protect themselves against this growing crime. Gray will present information about bank robberies and the measures that the agency and banks take to prevent robberies and to apprehend those who commit them.

“Identity theft hurts North Carolina citizens and businesses,” said Attorney General Cooper. “We’re working to get business and government to do a better job guarding our information, and we’re also working to educate consumers about how to protect themselves.”

“Bank robberies continue to pose a threat to the economic stability and security of North Carolina,” said Gray. “The FBI, in conjunction with our state and local law enforcement partners, will continue to aggressively pursue justice for those that decide to commit this type of crime.”

The North Carolina Bankers Association brings together all categories of banking institutions to best represent the interests of this rapidly changing industry. With 146 members, it has served all North Carolina bankers since 1897, and can be found on the World Wide Web at http://www.ncba.com.
