FBI ANNOUNCES "SAFE ONLINE SURFING" CAMPAIGN

Charlotte, NC -Special Agent in Charge Nathan T. Gray announces the kickoff of the North
Carolina FBI's "Safe Online Surfing" campaign. This state-wide public information campaign is focused towards educating middle-school aged children, parents and school officials on how to be safe while on the internet.

The FBI has teamed up with NASCAR driver J.1. Yeley, #18, to promote this public information
campaign and provide a state-wide message to our children about how to stay safe on the internet. J.J. Yeley is featured, along with the FBI, in a television public service announcement that is being sent to every affiliate across the state. Additionally, J.J. Yeley and the FBI partnered for a campaign poster, featuring numerous safety tips for children, parents and school officials. Of special note, J.J. Yeley and the FBI will also be attending selected middle schools in the Charlotte area to talk directly with the children and not only educate them, but get them excited about this state-wide information campaign.

The FBI Charlotte is committed to educating today's youth, particularly middle school-aged children, about various safety measures and tips to keep in mind while on the internet. As the number of children who own and use computers connected to the internet is growing exponentially, so to does the need for safety education to keep our children safe. The prevailing message to the children is simple: Be Safe!

The FBI is calling on all parents, organizations, and school officials to actively promote this campaign to ensure our children are kept safe while on the internet.
