ATTEMPT AND ROBBERY OF TWO LOCAL BANKS

Charlotte, NC – A lone robber entered two local banks today, attempting to rob one and robbing another.

JEROME GILL, 44, allegedly entered the Bank of America at 2823 South Blvd. at approximately 12:00 p.m. and attempted to rob the bank by reaching over the counter into the teller’s drawer. Bank security was called, but GILL fled the bank.

GILL then entered the Wachovia at 2910 South Blvd and handed the teller a note asking for an undisclosed amount of money. He departed the bank with money, attempted to force a citizen out of her car, but was apprehended by a bank teller. The teller held GILL until CMPD arrived and detained GILL. CMPD officers detained GILL until members of the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force arrived to arrest GILL.

GILL remains in federal custody and will face his initial hearing Thursday.

The FBI continues to investigate.
