Community Outreach Program

The Charlotte Division has held a Citizens' Academy session each year since 2001. In June of 2005, the Division established a Citizens Academy Alumni Association. Through the Alumni Association members are afforded the opportunity to continue learning and communicating with each other for the benefit of the community. To learn about the Charlotte Division's Citizens' Academy Alumni Association, please visit: www.fbicanc.org.

Each year, the FBI publicly recognizes the achievements and efforts of individuals and/or organizations within the area of drug and violence education/prevention by presenting them with the Director's Community Leadership Award. To preserve the prestige and uniqueness of the award, only one nominee is chosen from each FBI Division. This year's recipient is:
The Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Past recipients awarded the DCLA by the Charlotte Division

The Division also participates with other law enforcement agencies in a "Thanksgiving in Summer" food drive sponsored by Second Harvest Food Bank. Non perishable items are collected for needy families in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community. During the holiday season, the Division partners with the Salvation Army by filling Christmas stockings for underprivileged children living in the Greater Charlotte area.

The Charlotte Division continues to be involved with local area schools by participating in Career Fairs and making presentations. The Division implemented a mentor/tutor program, a lunch buddy program, and the Storytime w/the FBI program at several Charlotte Mecklenburg schools. This year, the division partnered with Big Brother Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte for their school based program to serve as mentors (Bigs) to children (Littles) in Mecklenburg county.
