SUSPECT FLEES WACHOVIA BANK IN CHARLOTTE WITHOUT OBTAINING ANY MONEY;
MAY BE LINKED TO BANK ROBBERY OF COASTAL FEDERAL CREDIT UNION LATER IN THE DAY IN CONCORD

Charlotte, NC - The FBI Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force is seeking the public's assistance in identifying and locating the individual who attempted to rob the Wachovia Bank located at 8800 J. M. Keynes Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina (NC), but who fled the bank without obtaining any money.

On April 18, 2008, at approximately 12:26 p.m., a lone male entered the bank and demanded money from one of the bank tellers. However, before obtaining any money from the teller, the suspect fled the bank. No weapon was observed or displayed during the robbery, and there were no injuries as a result of the robbery.

The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 5'9" in height, weighing approximately 200 pounds, and mid to late 20s in age. The suspect was also described as possibly having a light beard. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing a black baseball cap, a long-sleeved red tee-shirt with white writing across the front of the shirt, and dark, baggy pants.

Investigators from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the FBI Charlotte Safe Streets Task Force responded to today's robbery and are still investigating.

The suspect being sought for the attempted robbery of the Wachovia Bank is believed to be the same individual being sought by the Concord Police Department for the robbery of the Coastal Federal Credit Union at 970 Branchview Drive, Concord, NC, on April 18, 2008, at approximately 2:15 p.m. This belief is predicated upon similarities in physical appearance of the suspect in each incident.

The Safe Streets Task force is releasing the attached images from the surveillance system of the Wachovia Bank to help identify the suspect in today's robbery. Anyone with information regarding this case is requested to contact the FBI at (704) 377-9200.
